NEWS May 10th, 2023

TORONTO – Today, Brantford-Brant MPP Will Bouma paid tribute to the top Cadets from each Brantford area Cadet Corps: Navy League, Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, and Air Cadets respectively – praising them and their Officer Staff for leadership community involvement and mentoring from across Brantford-Brant-Six Nations.

“Today we welcome the top cadets as chosen by their commanding officers for their dedication, excellence and willingness to make our community the best it can be” said Brantford-Brant MPP Bouma. “The Cadets of Brantford-Brant were back to full training this past year from a challenging two and a half years of virtual and hybrid training. These cadets made the transition back to in person training with such ease”.

The Ontario Legislature gave the 8 Cadets and 6 Officer Staff a standing ovation as each cadet stood to salute the Legislators.

Lieutenant (N) Shane Downey,  Commanding Officer of 135 Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Admiral Nelles, Brantford said “As we emerge from the pandemic, we are encouraged by the growth our cadets have made over this year. It is these cadets here today that were part of the program pre-pandemic that have stuck with it that continue to pass along their knowledge and leadership styles that will help forge our program for years to come. We are proud of their commitment and dedication to not only our program, but their peer’s growth and our community”. Lieutenant(N) Downey extended his thanks to MPP Will Bouma for this invitation and recognition of our senior cadets today, and his on-going support of the Canadian Cadet Program.

Captain Celina Corner, Commanding Officer,104 Starfighter Royal Canadian Air Cadets, Brantford said “As we wrap up our first full year back to in-person training and activities, I couldn’t be more proud of the commitment, perseverance and positivity shown by our senior cadets. It’s because of them we had such a successful year and great foundation for moving forward. Bravo Zulu!” Captain Corner thanked MPP Will Bouma for continuing to support the Canadian Cadet program.

In Brantford-Brant-Six Nations, the 4 Cadet programs keep ~260 youth engaged, off the streets, teach them structure, respect, community involvement and civic duty for today and into adulthood.
