Ontario Helping to Keep Seniors with Dementia <\/strong>in Brantford-Brant-Six\nNations <\/strong>Safe<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

BRANTFORD\n\u2014 Ontario is helping families, caregivers and communities recognize the risks\nof dementia, be prepared for incidents, and better ensure that seniors can live\nsafely in Brantford-Brant-Six Nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each\nyear, approximately 125,000 seniors in Ontario living with dementia are at risk\nof wandering and going missing. The province is putting their safety first by\nproviding nearly $600,000 to the Alzheimer Society of Ontario to deliver the Finding Your Way<\/a> program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis\nfunding will go a long way in helping to keep seniors living in\nBrantford-Brant-Six Nations safe, especially given an estimated 240,000 seniors\nin Ontario are living with dementia,\u201d said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors\nand Accessibility. \u201cThis is another example of how our government is putting\nseniors and their families first by making it easier to find our missing loved\nones faster.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finding\nYour Way is a multicultural wandering prevention program which provides\npractical tools and advice for individuals, caregivers and the community to\nrecognize and reduce the risk of someone with dementia wandering and going\nmissing, while supporting a quick, safe return should an incident occur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This\nnew funding will help to locate missing seniors living with dementia by working\nwith police to promote Finding Your Way program resources in their communities,\nand by delivering seminars for individuals, caregivers and frontline officers\nthat educate and promote awareness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEvery\nminute counts when a senior goes missing to help keep them safe. Our government\nis committed to helping seniors with dementia stay safe in our entire region\u201d\nsaid Will Bouma, Member of Provincial Parliament for Brantford-Brant. \u201cWe are\nprotecting what matters most to help seniors live independently in their\ncommunities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are grateful for the investment from the Government of\nOntario, which will provide vital support to persons living with dementia and\npeace of mind for their families,\u201d said  Mary Burnett, CEO Alzheimer\nSociety of Brant, Haldimand Norfolk, Hamilton Halton. \u201cPrograms like Finding\nYour Way are an important part of the spectrum of services that are necessary\nto ensure that persons living with dementia can live well as vital and integral\nmembers of their community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
