City celebrates SC Johnson’s continued commitment to the Brantford community

NEWS March 6, 2024

BRANTFORD, ON – With a strong presence in Brantford since 1920, SC Johnson has been a cornerstone of the community, contributing significantly to the local economy and the well-being of residents. Together with SC Johnson and the community at large, Brantford City Council is relieved and grateful that SC Johnson will continue their storied history in Brantford.

In response to concerns expressed by SC Johnson last summer regarding a proposed development that could potentially impact their operations, Brantford City Council advocated against the rezoning of 58 Morrell Street, submitting opinions to the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT), and convening a Facilitation Team led by Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis. The team, made up of City staff including, Michael Bradley (Commissioner, Community Development), Geoff Daley (Legal Services), Ray Petro (Real Estate Services), as well as Councillors John Sless, Gino Caputo and Rose Sicoli, played a crucial role in guiding the resolution process.

The resolution reached would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders. Brantford City Council extends its sincere thanks to all parties involved, including provincial representatives, community members who provided invaluable feedback, and SC Johnson for their continued confidence and presence in Brantford.

“I am very proud of how all parties came together to navigate this resolution process,” says Mayor Kevin Davis. “Our collective efforts, alongside the support of City Council, the Developers involved and the community, have resulted in a very positive outcome for Brantford. I also want to acknowledge the province of Ontario, particularly Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Paul Calandra, and Brantford-Brant MPP Will Bouma, for expediting the assignment of a Facilitator to guide the resolution process.”

The City expresses our heartfelt gratitude to SC Johnson, Mayor Kevin Davis, the Facilitation Team, and all parties who played a pivotal role in navigating this resolution process. This united effort, supported by the community and provincial representatives, has secured a positive outcome for Brantford. As Mayor Davis notes, “Our collective commitment has proven instrumental, and we are proud to continue the legacy of partnership with SC Johnson in Brantford.”
