Province appoints facilitator in SC Johnson case
NEWS December 8th, 2023
BRANTFORD – Today, Hon. Paul Calandra, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, appointed a facilitator to identify a path towards resolution between the Rosart-Bucci Group, SC Johnson Corporation, and the City of Brantford, and to ensure the continued presence of SC Johnson and over a hundred jobs in the city.
“I want to thank Minister Calandra for taking decisive action today by appointing a facilitator that will consider the broader social and economic impacts of this case,” said Will Bouma, Member of Provincial Parliament for Brantford-Brant. “I am committed to continue to advocate to keep jobs at SC Johnson, a company that has had a local presence for well over a century, within our community.”
SC Johnson Corporation is a long-standing family-owned business in North America with its Canadian headquarters operating from Brantford since 1920. Over the past two decades alone, they have made significant contributions to the local economy in Brantford, including over $34 million to benefit a number of community projects and organizations, as well as employing over 100 hardworking individuals.
“When it comes to building at least 1.5 million new homes by 2031, we need all hands on deck. However, that should not come at the cost of eliminating existing good, local jobs,” said Minister Calandra. “That is why I am appointing a facilitator today to guide the City of Brantford, SC Johnson Corporation, and the Rosart-Bucci Group towards a solution that will satisfy all parties.”
The Office of the Provincial Land and Development Facilitator (OPLDF) has been assigned as the third-party facilitator. The appointment of an OPLDF facilitator will help both parties work towards a solution, including consideration of other suitable sites for the proposed residential development.
